<title>Urgent Need for Counsel to Serve on Mental Health Commitment Docket</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Lato;">There is an urgent need for more volunteers to serve as court appointed counsel on adult involuntary commitment cases.&nbsp;As of right now, there are no attorneys available to cover the afternoon docket on October 17.&nbsp;&nbsp; </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Lato;">There are two dockets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.&nbsp; The 10 a.m. docket is at INOVA Lamps (Cornwall Campus) and the 1 p.m. docket is at Stone Springs Behavioral Health Hospital.&nbsp; You can sign up for as many or as few dockets as you desire. There may be 1 to 4 cases per docket.&nbsp; Each case may take as little as 5 minutes or as much as an hour.&nbsp;<span style="font-family: Lato;">The pay rate is $150 per case. Also, attorneys who remain on the court appointed list are eligible to save up to $100 on their LCBA membership dues.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Lato;">There is training available for anyone interested.&nbsp; Please contact Heather Miller at <a href="mailto:hmiller@sshw.com">hmiller@sshw.com</a>&nbsp;for more information or to be added to the volunteer list.</span></p>]]></description>

<title>Circuit Court Clerk Announces Changes to Pretrial Violation Case Numbering</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt; color: #000000;">The Circuit Court Clerk has announced that effective June 1, 2025, the Clerk’s Office will assign a new criminal case number for any pre-trial show cause or capias request. The pre-trial violation will receive a subsequent action number at the front of the case number if it the case number begins with CR00 (example:&nbsp; CR</span><u><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><strong>01</strong></span></u><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">012345-00) or at the end of the case number if the case number begins with CR24 or CR25 (example: CR250012345-</span><u><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><strong>01</strong></span></u><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">).&nbsp;</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">Counsel for the defendant will be provided with a copy of the court order and any pertinent documents that direct the issuance of the capias or show cause that will provide the new criminal case number indication. <description><![CDATA[<p>The Clerk of the Circuit Court has announced that effective June 1, 2025, every crossclaim, counterclaim, and third party claim filed in a pending civil case will receive a separate case number.
    The filing fees for these actions will remain the same. This new practice is intended to provide a more accurate reflection of the Court’s caseload for these types of civil actions.

These items are meaningful incentives for Recovery Court participants. Popular items are tumbler cups/water bottles, candles, umbrellas, hygiene items, tote bags, or other seasonal items.<br /><br />If you are interested in donating an unused item or gift card, you can provide the item(s) to Angela McWilliams at the Department of Community Corrections or Caroline Koch at the Public Defender's Office.</span><br />]]></description>

Appointments will be made on a rotating basis. Requests to withdraw from a specific case may be made for good cause shown and in accordance with Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 6.2.</span></p>]]></description>
